How to Run a Virtual Pub Quiz

When pubs were closed during the pandemic, there was an increased demand for virtual pub quizzes.

While this demand has largely gone, there could still be occasions where you might want to run a virtual pub quiz, allowing people to take part from their own homes.

A simple way to run a virtual pub quiz would be to just send out handout rounds and "questions only" versions of quizzes, using either email, or, to allow for participants to interact with each other a bit more, a messaging service such as WhatsApp. Participants can then message their answers back for you to mark, or you can send out the answers for teams to mark themselves.

Our recommended way to run a virtual pub quiz would be to use a video-conferencing service, such as Zoom. This allows you and any participants you invite to connect to a video meeting using a computer, laptop, phone or even a smart TV. Everyone will be able to see and hear each other as you present the quiz, and if the traditional pub quiz banter gets a bit much, there is even an option to mute participants! Again, marking can be done by asking participants to send their answers to you, or you can simply read out the answers for teams to mark themselves.
