Review Of The Year 2016 Quiz 1

The first of two pub quizzes looking back on events from the year 2016, this quiz is particularly suitable for New Year's Eve parties and for quizzes run towards the end of 2016 or the start of 2017. It takes on a similar format to that of our weekly quizzes and is made up of 8 high quality rounds as follows...

Round 1: 2016 Mix
This handout round is split into 3 sections. The first shows photos of 5 people and the aim is to name the famous people they either married or divorced in 2016. The second section features 5 taglines used to promote films that were released in 2016 and the aim is to name these films. The final section features photos of 5 people who died in 2016 and the aim is to identify them.

Round 2: Entertainment
10 questions on entertainment in 2016, such as "Who wrote the novel on which the TV series The Night Manager was based?"

Round 3: Connections
8 questions on General Knowledge plus a final question, worth 2 points, asking for a 2016-related connection between the previous 8 answers.

Round 4: Points Builder
4 questions relating to the year 2016, where question 1 requires 1 answer, question 2 requires 2 answers, and so on, and where each individual answer is worth 1 point.

Round 5: Initial Letter Link
10 questions on events from the year 2016, where the answer to question 10 can be spelt out by rearranging the first letters of the first 9 answers.

Round 6: Sport
10 questions on sporting events that took place in 2016, such as "Which country topped the medal table at the 2016 Summer Paralympics?"

Round 7: Which Month?
10 questions asking teams to name the month of 2016 in which various events took place. For example, "In which month of 2016 was Ed Balls eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing?"

Round 8: Double Or Quits
10 questions on the year 2016, such as "What craze that spread to the UK in the autumn of 2016 would have been a particular worry to you if you suffered from coulrophobia?". Each correct answer scores 2 points, but teams can leave answers blank as any wrong answers mean a score of zero for the round.

The pub quiz pack is made up of 6 separate files as follows...

First of all there is a professionally designed 2 page answer sheet that you can print out and hand out to each team at the start of the quiz for them to write their answers on as you read out questions. This also features a round by round scoresheet to make it easy to see how each team has performed after all the answers have been marked at the end of the quiz.

Secondly, there is the handout round, which again is to be printed out and handed out to teams at the start of the quiz for them to work on straight away, and carry on working on throughout the quiz and during any breaks you have.

Next there is a 6 page document with all of the questions in rounds 2 to 8 for you to read out, along with all the answers to these and the answers to the handout round. This also features 2 tie-break questions to be used at the end of your quiz if two or more teams end up with the same score, along with a set of substitute questions to help you tailor the difficulty level of your quiz.

There is also another version of this 6 page document, but where all of the answers have been removed. This may not be needed, but is included in case the quiz-master would like to take part in the quiz too.

Finally, there is a quizmaster's scoresheet to help keep track of teams' scores.
