This pub quiz pack features a set of 5 "stick or twist" rounds for you to incorporate into your pub quizzes.
Each quiz round contains 5 high quality general knowledge questions of increasing difficulty and increasing points value. Question 1 is easy and worth 1 point, question 2 is slightly harder and worth 2 points, and so on until a very difficult question 5 is worth 5 points, meaning that there are a possible 15 points up for grabs in each round. After each question, teams have the choice to "stick" and put no more answers down for this round, because if they carry on and put a wrong answer down then they are "bust" and score nothing for the round!
Most of the questions in this round require a bit more thought than the average quiz question. An example round is shown below.
1. For 1 point... What is the total number of dots on a pair of dice?
42
2. For 2 points... The MMR vaccine is for immunisation against which three diseases?
Measles, Mumps and Rubella
3. For 3 points... Which two James Bond films have titles where the initial letters in them spell out valid English words?
The World Is Not Enough (Twine) and Die Another Day (Dad)
4. For 4 points... In the 1970s and 1980s, Michael Jackson had four solo top ten UK hits songs that contained a common boy's or girl's name in their title. Name these songs.
Billie Jean, Ben, Dirty Diana and Rockin' Robin
5. For 5 points... In terms of area, name 3 of the 4 largest landlocked countries in the world.
3 from... Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Chad and Niger
As you can see, with the increasing points and increasing difficulty of the questions, teams face an extra challenge after each question of whether to "stick" and safely score a few points or whether to "twist" and risk scoring nothing for the round, but have the chance of a very high score.
We recommend that you only use one of these rounds in each quiz you do and that the rest is made up of handout rounds, plus other question and answer rounds on general subjects, specialist subjects, general knowledge, etc. Also, because of the gambling nature of this type of round, we find that a Stick Or Twist round is best used towards the end of a pub quiz. So if a team feels they haven't done so well in earlier rounds they may be more inclined to gamble and if a team feels they have done well in earlier rounds they may be more inclined to play conservatively.
Please note that the questions in this pack also appear in Weekly Quizzes 291 to 295. If you would prefer to purchase our pre-compiled full weekly pub quiz packs, then click here, where you can find quizzes with a handout round, 2 rounds on general subjects, a specialist subject round, a connections round, an initial letter link round, and a stick or twist round, as well as professionally designed answer sheets and full instructions on how to run your quiz.
