Another in our series of cryptic bands and singers rounds, this pub quiz handout round features 15 phrases that can each be reworded to give a new phrase that sounds like the name of a famous band or singer. The years in which they each had their first UK top ten hit single is also given and the aim is to name these bands and singers. For example, the correct answer to the clue "Scottish river concerning English county town (1964)" is Dionne Warwick, as the clue can be reworded as "Dee on Warwick".
A few of these cryptic clues are fairly straightforward and most teams in your quiz should be able to get up and running on this round without too much trouble. However, there are also some tricky clues that are likely to take a fair bit of puzzling over before teams arrive at the correct answer.
It is recommended that these cryptic clues are used in a quiz as a handout round. For more information on handout rounds and our recommended use for them in quizzes click here
Please note that this handout round also appears in Weekly Quiz 700. If you would prefer to purchase our pre-compiled full weekly pub quiz packs, then click here, where you can find quizzes with a handout round, 7 question and and answer rounds, plus sheets for teams to write their answers on and full instructions on how to run a successful quiz. If, however, you prefer to use your own format for your quizzes, then this handout round should help towards creating an entertaining and challenging quiz.
If you buy this handout round, we will give you access to pdf files you can download. Two of these will be for the main handout sheet - one as illustrated above, and one in a more plain format. The third sheet will contain the answers. You probably already have everything you need to access and use these rounds in your quiz, but you might want to check our requirements page to make sure.
