Ologies

Ologies

This pub quiz handout round features a list of 15 words such as "Graphology", "Haematology" and "Cartology". Each of these 15 words is defined as "the study of" something, and choosing from a mixed up list, the aim for teams in your quiz is to work out what these things are. For example, "Blood" should be matched to "Haematology" as "Haematology" is defined as the "the study of blood".

A few of these are fairly straightforward to ensure that teams get up and running on this quiz round quickly, and as in the example above, teams may be able to relate the first parts of a lot of these words to other similar words to work out their meaning. For example, teams might not know what haematology is, but they might have heard of the word "haemoglobin" and know that it is related to blood. In addition to this type of example, there are also a few very tricky "ologies", so teams are likely to need a few guesses to complete the round.

While the information in this round could be used to make up standard question and answer rounds (where the quiz-master asks questions aloud and the teams write the answers on blank answer sheets) it is recommended that this is used in a quiz as a handout round. If you buy this handout round, we will give you access to pdf files you can download. Two of these will be for the main handout sheet - one as illustrated above, and one in a more plain format. The third sheet will contain the answers. You probably already have everything you need to access and use these rounds in your quiz, but you might want to check our requirements page to make sure.
